Stop Mold Growing On Your Shower Curtain

For preventing water being splashed all over the bathroom floor, a shower curtain certainly comes in handy. However there is one negative aspect to using a shower curtain and that is the inclination for it to get mold growing on it. Keep reading for some good tips on how to prevent mold growing on your shower curtain.

There are many types of shower curtains on the market, and some manufacturers have come up with a concept of shower curtains that have been treated with an anti-mold treatment which prevents mold from developing on the shower curtain. This is one way to be rid of mold without having to spend the time scrubbing or using chemical sprays.

Or you may prefer to buy a shower curtain liner. These fit in between the bath and the shower curtain preventing water getting splashed onto the curtain itself, thereby putting a stop to mold growth on it. You can simply throw the liner into the washing machine once a fortnight to keep it clean and fresh.

You can use vinegar on the shower curtain to prevent mould building up on it. If you soak a vinyl shower curtain into a strong mixture of vinegar and water for an hour or so, this will prevent mold growing on it. The acid in the vinegar is what stops the mold from being able to develop. You can also make the mix up in a spray bottle and spray the bottom of the curtain after each shower.

You can also use a strong salt water solution to soak a vinyl shower curtain in for a an hour or so before hanging. This prevents mold from forming and you can maintain a mold free shower curtain by spraying the bottom of the shower curtain in a similar way as you would the vinegar solution.

After your shower, be sure to pull the shower curtain across the whole length of the bath to enable it to dry out completely. Mold can’t grow on a dry surface, and if the curtain is left crumpled up it retains the moisture which encourages the growth of mold. Open a window or turn on an exhaust fan to get the air circulating and get rid of the moisture in the air.
