How Principles And Chores Can Help Your Life

Chores can teach many principles in life. As a youngster, chores were a big part of my life. Mother always said that doing chores piloted children to a much easier adult life. Mother’s opinion was very strong when it came to that principle, but I think she wanted to inhabit my time just to keep me busy, and out of trouble. Chores coach children to acquire a healthy work ethic that will continue throughout life.

The most important principle learned growing up was to take do quality work. I can still hear my grandfather say, “Quality is number one, then quantity.” The lesson learned was to always take a second look at the work completed. Learning as an adult that workmanship is important is a hard lesson to learn. Bad habits are sometimes impossible to break. Chores can teach us how to put quality first.

Doing a job right the first time is another important principle when it comes to chores. My brother and sister would catch my every shortcut, and tell my parents. My parents would make me do the job over, from start to finish until it was done correctly. Having to re-do the job from start to finish was never any fun. Inspections were pretty tight so learning quickly that taking the easy way was not so easy at all. Doing a task right the first time was a lesson I learned early on.

Taking pride while doing chores was another principle learned from the time I started performing chores. Pride in a job well done always reaps its rewards by giving one a real sense of accomplishment. Many duties I have today are a clear reminder of chores done years ago. Feeling a sense of success is always motivating. Motivation always breeds just another reason to take pride in work. Most of us desire being told that the work they do is outstanding.

These are just a few of the principles learned from doing chores. Having responsibility is just part of life. If taught from the start that taking responsibility for a job well done is important then the lesson will have been worth the trouble. Wasting time in life, doing unproductive activities won’t return positive results.
